BioArmor, LLC is a start-up company headquartered in office space on the third floor of the David H. Murdock Core Laboratory. By locating at the NC Research Campus, BioArmor takes advantages of the proximity to a community of scientists and the scientific expertise of the David H. Murdock Research Institute to develop new applications for their antimicrobial formulations.
The company offers proprietary formulations of non-toxic, non-alcohol based, hand sanitizers, topical antiseptics and hard surface disinfectants that use nanotechnology to kill harmful microorganisms. BioArmor has a customer base that includes government and military agencies, private schools, pharmacies and a large retail chain.
Their products, which are manufactured in nearby Rockwell, North Carolina, are made from a natural formulation that uses the organic compound benzalkonium chloride- not alcohol or other chemicals- as the active ingredient. The ingredient disrupts the outer cell membranes of harmful microorganisms lysing or killing them on contact. The physical death of microorganisms prevents resistance to BioArmor antimicrobial products from developing. Their formulation also includes aloe vera to moisture skin with every use. BioArmor products have the advantage of leaving a nanofilm on skin and surfaces that protects for up to 12 hours.
